8222 - Floral Fiesta Look at the focal bead on this! It's a huge handcrafted lampwork bead by Norma Murray, with blue and red inlaid flowers on orange green and white.
The necklace strand is made of matt cobalt blue crow beads interspaced wth black beads and more of Norma's lampwork rondelles (large ones) in blue with red and white flowers and yellow centres.
The lower finish of this necklace is that wonderful focal bead with six tassels in red and white seed beads, and the necklace is finished with a secure toggle clasp.
This necklace is a long, 'Liberty Necklace', and whilst it has the toggle clasp, will fit straight over the head too. The tassels end below the bust, somewhere in the middle of the tummy, depending upon your height.

Under African Skies - Bracelet This thought provoking bracelet was made using extremely rare deep sky blue-turquoise, opaque glass beads, and a focal Millefiori bead, that have come from the African trade.
They are from the late "1800's" to the early "1900's"- approx. 100 years old. They are from varied origins, possibly Chinese, Bohemian, or even German.
As with many glass beads there is a certain amount of mystery. These are great old beads that show some wear but are in good condition.
In the "1960 - 70's" the African traders coined the name of "padres", for these old blue, (& other colors), opaque beads because of the look & similarities of another wound "padre" that was sold for trade to the North American peoples during the "fur trade" era, but they are a different "beadstyle" despite similarities.
The beads here came out of the African Trade. On the African continent these old sky blue-turquoise beads have represented status, currency, & position. There they were traditionally strung as neck wear on rafia or large colorful beaded circles.
The central focal bead is an ancient Millefiori trade bead, also used as above.
The spacer beads in antique silver are not old, however the small green beads separating them are vintage. The bracelet is securely fastened with an unusual snake toggle clasp.

Turquoise/Green Bug Bracelet The idea from this bracelet obviously came from the bug for starters. The colours were so lovely and I've been saving him up for the right beads. He is vintage, made of glass.
The right beads arrived in the form of the beautiful peacock blue crystal rondelles and Eleanor Browns' textile beads in blue/ green.
The bracelet was completed with an easy to use ornamental toggle clasp. Toggles are great for doing up with one hand, and they are still very secure.

THE CHINTZ COLLECTION - The Story All of the pieces in this little collection are made primarily with Norma Murray Handcrafted Lampwork ' Chintz Rose' beads which is why the collection has been given it's name.
I've named each piece after an old French rose. Many French roses were named after distinguished men, their wives, or mistresses, especially those roses bred during the time of the Empress Josephine, who had the most famous rose garden of all.
The identities of these women often only live on because of the rose ... and now these necklaces too.
I was going to call the first one Empress Josephine, since she is almost mentioned more often for being a rose than as Napoleon's sad ex-wife, but then I read that she always carried a rose with her so that she could hide her bad teeth when she laughed, and I thought it might put you off the necklace, so I named it Malmaison instead.
Josephine was so fond of roses that she caused ships carrying roses to be allowed through the battle lines unscathed by both French and English for the garden at Malmaison.
